Together we provide access to drinking water

Support access to drinking water in Africa and around the world, act alongside SOS Développement Solidarité Internationale

Why fight for access to drinking water in Central Africa?

1 in 3 people do not have access to drinking water, 2 in 5 people do not have a basic hand washing facility (source: UN statistics in 2022).

Consumption of unsanitary water promotes the development of diarrheal diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever, dysentery, which are particularly dangerous for young children. The poorest countries are the most affected by this scourge.

Access to clean water and sanitation is crucial to ensuring basic hygiene and preventing the development of diseases. This is why one of the main struggles of the SOS Développement Solidarité Internationale association is to achieve the sustainable development objective SDG 6 defined by the UN, namely: that every person can have access to drinking water and sanitation structures by 2030.

Access to water helps combat discrimination against women

Providing water is often a task that falls on girls and women in Central Africa, which sometimes involves traveling long distances and putting in considerable effort to transport it.

The safety, hygiene and sanitation needs of girls are neglected. This prevents them from regularly attending classes.

The association’s fight is to enable young girls to no longer see their ambition undermined by intimidation or discrimination, to ensure their dignity and the development of their personal potential.

Give them more independence, autonomy, the ability to participate, assert themselves and make big decisions; with the installation of infrastructures, women no longer have to carry water by traveling several kilometers per day to obtain supplies.
